11/20 - What Wright Said...
Posted on 20 Nov 2008 by Danielle

(About the Mets' Chemistry)

David Wright has lived through the Mets' collapses of 2007 and 2008, and he certainly doesn't want a three-peat. But the team's most popular player insisted Thursday that his club has no problem with its clubhouse or chemistry.

"I don't think it's any issue of who's in our clubhouse," the Mets' third baseman said at Foley's, a Manhattan restaurant that donated $2,000 to the David Wright Foundation. "We just didn't get the job done. There are no excuses you can create."

While the Mets are focusing on their pitching staff this winter, targeting a closer and a frontline starter, Wright said that he and his fellow Mets stars have to improve, as well.

"I also think that the core players, myself included, have to step up and do a better job," Wright said. "The core guys have to prepare thoroughly and continue to try to get better."

Wright Wins Silver Slugger... AGAIN!!!
Posted on 13 Nov 2008 by Danielle

For the second straight year, David is the recipient of the MLB Silver Slugger Award!

The Silver Slugger Award is given to a single player for each position, one in the AL and one in the NL, for their outstanding offensive performance in each position. The award selected by managers and coaches, who are not allowed to vote for a player on their team.

Wright is the sixth Mets player to win multiple awards. Mike Piazza won it five times (1998-2002), and Gary Carter (1985-1986), Darryl Strawberry (1988 and 1990), Howard Johnson (1989 and 1991) and Carlos Beltran (2006 and 2007) each earned the honor twice.

Wright, a back-to-back winner, also batted .302 with 33 home runs and 124 RBIs, slugging .534 with a .390 on-base percentage.

He was chosen over Atlanta's Chipper Jones, who nit .364 with 22 homers and 75 RBIs, slugging .574 with a .470 on-base percentage in another injury-plagued season.

On winning the award, the night after his highly successful Fourth Annual Do the Wright Thing Gala, Wright said, "It's a very prestigious award and I am proud to win it, considering the people who vote for the award. This honor will help motivate me to even an even better season in 2009."

Congratulations to David on this prestigious honor!
