Superbowl Party and HoJo's |

David Wright is well compensated and well off. He can afford to eat at exclusive, upscale restaurants regularly. That's not his way, though. Indeed, Wright intends to watch the Super Bowl and dine Sunday night in a place most folks wouldn't think of. He's eating at HoJo's. Cardinals and Steelers provided by NBC, steaks and burgers supplied by Allen Brothers, high-end retailer, and prepared by, well ... Howard Johnson himself, the Mets' batting coach. "I'm cooking," HoJo said proudly. "I'm David's favorite restaurant." Wright has had plans for HoJo's. And now, two younger Mets teammates -- Daniel Murphy and Nick Evans -- are to join him at Johnson's... |

David Wright talks WBC |

Mets fans will be happy to hear that David Wright is serious about winning a championship. He stated that it will be his goal the next time he puts on a uniform for serious competition.
The catch is that the third baseman will put the Mets' World Series aspirations on hold in March when he competes for Team USA in the second World Baseball Classic. "It's a tremendous honor and I'm preparing to go out there and win the thing," Wright said Sunday when he was honored for his humanitarian work at the 73rd New Jersey Sports Writers Association banquet held at the Pines Manor in Edison. "Any chance you get to put USA on your chest, you take it very seriously. It's a great responsibility. I'm excited about it. I can't wait for it to start." Wright also has high hopes for the 2009 Mets, who have added relievers Francisco Rodriguez, the free-agent signee who set the single-season save record of 62 with the Angels last year, and J.J. Putz, acquired in a trade with the Seattle Mariners... |

Exhibition Game Tickets |

Hi, everyone! I know this is a little random, but my own birthday is coming up on April 4th and for the first time in something like... 8 or 9 years, my birthday is a day where the Mets are playing at home. Unfortunately, I've been unable to find tickets anywhere (besides some highly unaffordable seats on Stubhub). If anyone has tickets for the April 4th game for sale, please shoot me an email at TWSDanielle@gmail.com. Sorry to waste the time of those of you who thought I was announcing the sale of those tickets. I can't seem to get a straight answer from anyone as to when those tickets are going on sale to the general public. |

David Wright on the plane crash rumor |

David Wright took a flight from New York to Los Angeles on Jan. 15. When it landed, he was surprised to find so many messages on his cell phone that his inbox was full. It seems a rumor had been making the rounds that Wright was a passenger on US Airways flight 1549 to Charlotte, N.C., the one that landed in the Hudson River. Apparently everyone who knows Wright and heard the unfounded rumor tried to reach him. "I left about an hour after the plane went down in the Hudson," he said yesterday. "By the time I landed, my inbox was full and I got quite a few text messages. I'm glad everyone on the plane turned out to be all right." Wright said he spoke with his mother before boarding his flight. Even so, his father sent him a text message to make sure he was OK. "Parents worry," Wright said. Credit: Newsday |

Wright visits Children's Hospital |

Chances are the paths of David Wright and Cole Hamels will intersect Sunday evening. Chances are the Mets' third baseman and the Phillies' ace will be in each other's presence for a few hours at the New York Baseball Writers' dinner in Manhattan for the first time since Hamels tactlessly suggested that the Mets' collective epiglottis didn't function as well as it might have during the final weeks of the 2007 and '08 seasons. And when that happens, when Wright finally comes face to face with the opponent who impugned the Mets' baseball manhood last month, you can bet he'll have his say. And it'll go something like this... |

David Wright on Manny Ramirez |

There's no indication the Mets are pursuing free agent Manny Ramirez, but David Wright can't help but imagine what the team's lineup would look like with the slugger. "I'd be on board with Manny 100 percent, assuming he put the team first," Wright said Thursday during an appearance at the Schneider Children's Hospital in New Hyde Park. Wright said he doesn't know Ramirez well, but thinks the Mets have a good enough clubhouse mix to allow them to absorb the player who many in baseball think quit on the Red Sox last season to force a trade to the Dodgers. "I think we have a good enough clubhouse -- I don't even know what he's like in the clubhouse -- I would hope we have a good enough clubhouse," Wright said. Asked if he thought the Mets needed another bat, Wright said: "If we can do what we did last year, no . . . I think we'll be just fine. But a bat never hurts." Credit: Hartford Courant |

Not the WRIGHT Number for David Wright? |

|
David Wright can't wear his usual uniform number, 5, for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic. That's because his manager, Davey Johnson, wore #5 for the Mets while managing the team from April 2, 1984, until May 29, 1990 and will wear it once again in the WBC. So Wright will wear No. 4. For the record, this excites me very much. Personally, I wore #4 on every sports team I played for, as I was born on April 4th and it was always my lucky number. In my lifetime (and you can do the math), I've seen Mike Cubbage (who first wore the number the year I was born), Cookie Rojas, Robin Ventura, John Valentin, Matt Galante, Chris Woodward, Ben Johnson, Anderson Hernandez, Robinson Cancel, and Argenis Reyes wear my number. And while, as a kid, a man who went by the name Cookie always made me happy, I only truly liked Robin Ventura. Finally, I have the honor of sharing my number with a Met I can brag about... even if it's only for a few weeks. Now all I have to do is find a WBC jersey/tee with Wright and #4 while I'm in Florida and I'll be super happy. |
