Something really cool is coming here at The Wright Stuff to benefit the David Wright Foundation...

Merchandise!

With Spring Training here and the 2009 Regular Season just around the corner, now is the perfect time to launch our very own line of gear. It's not going to be numbers and names...

It's going to be cooler. MUCH cooler. In fact, all of you "gangstas on the bus", "ladies on the field", and "playa playa's" are going to love our line.

It should launch in the next few days, so please check back soon!

Oh... and 100 PERCENT of all proceeds are going to benefit the David Wright Foundation!
HAPPY SPRING TRAINING EVERYONE!
Posted on 13 Feb 2009 by Danielle

Ahhh... the long-awaited day is now officially here. Even the message board on my dorm room dorm is displaying the Mets 'NY' symbol and the phrase "Baseball is back!"

Pretty much everyone has reported to camp already, including position players who are down in Port St. Lucie early to work on getting off to a good start. I updated the side bar with the upcoming games and such and also updated David's lengthly list of awards.

Well, that's pretty much all for now... so here's to the start of 2009, the inaugural season at CitiField and hopefully, our third World Series title!

ARTICLE: Wright ready to lead Mets new way
Posted on 13 Feb 2009 by Danielle

David Wright didn't need anyone to tell him when to come to camp.

The Mets' third baseman didn't need a reporting date.

Or a nudge from his manager.

He showed up early — because the sooner the new baseball season begins, the sooner he can erase the miserable memories of the way the last two seasons ended for the underachieving Mets.

"I've been champing at the bit to get ready," Wright said Tuesday at the Mets' spring-training complex. "I don't want to be known as one of the core guys on a team that collapsed the last two Septembers, a team that can't finish. It's embarrassing. I take it as a personal challenge. I want to put an end to that this year."

So he was here, days before the Mets' pitchers and catchers were scheduled to report, more than a week before his fellow position players must be in camp.

And the young slugger is doing exactly what this team needs him to do.

He's taking the lead...
David Wright Audio
Posted on 10 Feb 2009 by Danielle

Bart Hubbuch of the NY Times posted the audio of David's conversation with reporters in regards to the Alex Rodriguez/Steroids controversy currently in the forefront of the news.

Many of the quotes below come from this audio, however, many interesting questions are also asked. It is definitely worth a listen.

Check it out... here.
David Wright on A-Rod
Posted on 10 Feb 2009 by Danielle
"Being that it is having to do (with the team) crosstown, I try to stay out of it as much as possible," Wright said. "But I think you can't ever condone cheating. With that being said, I think he did a tremendous job in owning up to it. ... I think this can be a learning tool not only for kids but for his peers."

Adam Rubin of the Daily News

David Wright was not around yet when A-Rod was testing positive, but he still resents the notion that players are getting an illegal advantage,

"I know how hard I work," Wright said. "I don't want anyone taking shortcuts."

But Wright still insisted, "He's better than me."

Wright said - with the disclaimer that he might be naive - that he believed the game is clean now."

David Wright praised Alex Rodriguez for coming clean on his PED use during Monday's interview with ESPN, but also took a hard-line against cheaters.

"I hope that anybody who cheats get caught," Wright said. "Maybe its me being naive, but I think baseball is clean. You would have to be either very desperate or flat-out stupid to try and beat the system now."

That said, Wright still believes that A-Rod is "a tremendous player" and laughed when someone asked about comparing himself to the Yankees' third baseman in the wake of these revelations.

"He's better than me," a smiling Wright said.

It's come to my attention that the graphic header of the gallery page is no longer working. I'm unable to use photoshop right now because I have a PC-only copy on my home computer and only have my laptop here at college.

Anyway, it should be fixed sometime next weekend.

Jones is 'Chipper' when it comes to David Wright
Posted on 04 Feb 2009 by Danielle

Chipper Jones offered high marks for the Mets' winter makeover. Speaking on a World Baseball Classic conference call Wednesday afternoon, the longtime Brave said: "You go out and get two top closers, you're going to address a serious problem they thought they had last year. They did it in a big way. We, as the Braves and Phillies, have to concentrate on winning the game in the first seven innings so we don't have to worry about the eighth and ninth."

As for David Wright, his teammate on Team USA in the WBC, Chipper added: "I'm a huge David Wright fan. How could you not want to sit back and see how David Wright goes about his business, how he mentally prepares for games? David Wright is the best third baseman in the National League, if not all of baseball."

On the same conference call, Jimmy Rollins said he'd reserve comment on the NL East until spring training.

Superbowl Party and HoJo's
Posted on 01 Feb 2009 by Danielle

David Wright is well compensated and well off. He can afford to eat at exclusive, upscale restaurants regularly. That's not his way, though. Indeed, Wright intends to watch the Super Bowl and dine Sunday night in a place most folks wouldn't think of.
He's eating at HoJo's.

Cardinals and Steelers provided by NBC, steaks and burgers supplied by Allen Brothers, high-end retailer, and prepared by, well ... Howard Johnson himself, the Mets' batting coach.

"I'm cooking," HoJo said proudly. "I'm David's favorite restaurant."

Wright has had plans for HoJo's. And now, two younger Mets teammates -- Daniel Murphy and Nick Evans -- are to join him at Johnson's...
David Wright talks WBC
Posted on 25 Jan 2009 by Danielle
Mets fans will be happy to hear that David Wright is serious about winning a championship. He stated that it will be his goal the next time he puts on a uniform for serious competition.

The catch is that the third baseman will put the Mets' World Series aspirations on hold in March when he competes for Team USA in the second World Baseball Classic.

"It's a tremendous honor and I'm preparing to go out there and win the thing," Wright said Sunday when he was honored for his humanitarian work at the 73rd New Jersey Sports Writers Association banquet held at the Pines Manor in Edison. "Any chance you get to put USA on your chest, you take it very seriously. It's a great responsibility. I'm excited about it. I can't wait for it to start."

Wright also has high hopes for the 2009 Mets, who have added relievers Francisco Rodriguez, the free-agent signee who set the single-season save record of 62 with the Angels last year, and J.J. Putz, acquired in a trade with the Seattle Mariners...
Exhibition Game Tickets
Posted on 25 Jan 2009 by Danielle

Hi, everyone! I know this is a little random, but my own birthday is coming up on April 4th and for the first time in something like... 8 or 9 years, my birthday is a day where the Mets are playing at home.

Unfortunately, I've been unable to find tickets anywhere (besides some highly unaffordable seats on Stubhub). If anyone has tickets for the April 4th game for sale, please shoot me an email at TWSDanielle@gmail.com.

Sorry to waste the time of those of you who thought I was announcing the sale of those tickets. I can't seem to get a straight answer from anyone as to when those tickets are going on sale to the general public.
